The most popular and frequently visited shopping malls of the Sukhumvit Road are Central World Plaza, Siam Paragon, MBK, Emporium, Terminal 21. They house shops of Thai designers and boutiques of international brands alike: Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Swarovski, Christian Dior, Gucci and many more. In the evening, small rows of stalls selling simpler and cheaper things and private shops with authentic Thai goods open near majority of shopping malls in downtown Bangkok.
Bangkok’s huge motley markets attract shopping fans as strongly as its air-conditioned shopping malls. In addition to unprecedented variety of goods, due to which you don’t know where to look first, they attract with special atmosphere. Chatuchak Weekend Market is among travelers’ favorites. It is the largest market in Thailand and one of the largest in the world. In addition to a wide selection of clothes, shoes and accessories at affordable price, it is known for original handmade articles and exclusive souvenirs, which you won’t find in any shopping mall.
Bangkok’s another popular market among shopaholics is Patpong Night Market. Those who don’t want to pay a fabulous price for brand items and manage with their tolerable copies often visit this market. It is also possible to purchase authentic Thai souvenirs, ceramics, antiques and paintings by local artists at the market. Shops of the picturesque China Town offer similar assortment as well.
Despite incredible variety of goods offered in Bangkok’s shops, some of them are worth special attention, at least because it is possible to see, and therefore, buy them only in Thailand’s capital. In particular, it concerns high-quality items of snake and crocodile skin, world-famous Thai silk and cotton, as well as jewelry with precious stones and original design. In addition, Bangkok attracts with a wide selection of technical equipment. It is well-known that famous world brands produce great part of their equipment in Thailand and therefore the prices for this group of products are lower here in comparison with other countries.
In general, not all capital’s shopping spots have pleasantly surprising prices. That is why you should always bargain there. Although in luxury boutiques Central World, Emporium or Siam Paragon bargaining won’t work, it is always appropriate in the shops of the more affordable shopping malls. It is easy to spot the shops where you can bargain. The simple rule is that if the price is written with a pen bargaining is allowed.
Another way to save on shopping is to wait for sales, which are usually scheduled for the beginning of the year or for the summer season.
