Opened in 2012, the night market Asiatique The Riverfront is one of the newest trade and entertainment centers in Bangkok. It is located on the Chao Phraya River’s riverside and is a vast complex, which has a collection of shops, restaurants and amusements for both children and adults on its premises. Immediately after its foundation, the market achieved the status of the most unusual trading and entertainment complex in the capital. It stands out from the oceans of other similar facilities thanks to its original concept, combining traditions and modernity, the past and the future of Bangkok.

Asiatique The Riverfront occupies the former industrial land of the Danish company The East Asiatic Company Limited, which was engaged in exporting teak more than a hundred years ago. The old rooms were restored in a popular industrial style, but the mysterious atmosphere of Bangkok in the early 20th century was preserved. Most of the buildings in the complex are either the original structures from 1900 or historical replicas.

Asiatique The Riverfront is divided into four zones, each of which represents one of capital’s shopping districts. In total, the trade and entertainment complex has one and a half thousand shops and forty restaurants. You can buy virtually any kind of goods from the stalls: clothing and footwear from local and world-known designers, souvenirs, including authentic models made by Thai craftsmen, leather goods, cosmetics and perfumes, jewelry and accessories.

Asiatique The Riverfront’s cafes, bars and restaurants offer a wide selection of traditional Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean and Italian dishes. The adjoined riverfront features a food court, where visitors can taste various seafood dishes.

In addition to the culinary arts, there are a range of entertainments, including the well-known Joe Louis Puppet Theater and Calypso Cabaret, at Asiatique The Riverfront. The trade and entertainment complex’s most famous amusement, however, is the ferris wheel Asiatique Sky, standing on the very bank of the river. This is thought to be one of the biggest wheels in the world. The 60-meter-high Ferris wheel has 42 air-conditioned glass capsules, each of which can accommodate 8 people. It is very popular among both the locals and Bangkok’s guests, because of splendid panoramas of the city and the Chao Phraya River, which are revealed from the cubicles.

Getting there. Get to the Skytrain station Saphan Taksin, then take a free cutter from the Sathorn moorage directly to Asiatique The Riverfront.

Similar to Chatucak w/ lots of Thai handicraft & souvenir shops except @ much higher prices. Plenty of F&Bs too. Spare half a day at least. Best time to come is after 6pm.

Take the free boat ride at your own risk.On the way back to Satorn Pier, the boat was overloaded w/standing passengers. There's never safety briefs or info on life vest. It's accident waiting to happen.

Nothing special about this place. Not a place to do serious shopping. But the free boat ride is awesome.

My favorite way to get there is by catching a free ride on their boat from Sathorn Pier near BTS Saphan Taksin. Great view of the city along the way. Lots to see, do, eat, & buy. Very touristy.
